About the event

This is the second of three dinners this fall (Sept., Oct., and Nov.) carefully crafted around the discussion of important writings on food justice, farming, and community. As is our custom, this conversation will be shared around a table laden with good local food from neighboring farmers.

On October 13, we will welcome back Brent Barry of Stout Creek Farm to present his reflections on Wendell Berry's classic The Unsettling of America. Since its publication in 1977, this book has been recognized as a classic. Wendell Berry argues that good farming is a cultural and spiritual discipline. Todays agribusiness, however, takes farming out of its cultural context and away from families. As a result, we as a nation are more estranged from the land—and from the intimate knowledge, love, and care of it. Berry's arguments and observations are more relevant than ever.  Live music will be sprinkled through evening with help from our friends at The Gar Hole.

Just like our summer series, this will be an informal and casual evening. If all you can bring is your appetite, a chef-prepared meal awaits but feel free to bring your own favorite beverage (alcoholic or otherwise) or any side dishes to share. - What a great evening this should be. See you on the farm!
